We began at the United Nations, surrounded by the flags of nations and reminded that every flag represents people, history, and a shared responsibility to protect human dignity.
Then we entered the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum.
Hiroshima. Srebrenica. Rwanda. Missing prisoners. Families waiting years for news of loved ones. We thought we understood suffering until we stood before these stories and realized how little we truly knew.
The Red Cross showed us the enormity of human violence, but also the extraordinary compassion of those who dedicate their lives to relieving it.
The United Nations gave us hope: people from across the world still come together because humanity’s greatest problems cannot be solved alone.
As Gandhi said, “Peace moves at a snail’s pace.”
If human beings can create so much suffering, we must also believe in our power to create peace.”
