None of those who paid the price for our freedom should be forgotten.” — Václav Havel
One of the most quietly powerful days of our journey.
With Jewish guide Amálka Joranova, we visited Prague’s synagogues and stood before the children’s drawings in the Pinkas Synagogue—bright, innocent images created by children who did not survive the Holocaust. We also walked through the Old Jewish Cemetery, where generations were buried in layers because space was so limited.
Later, we watched a documentary about Million Moments, the Czech civic movement built by ordinary people demanding accountability and defending democratic values, and met Petra Pojerová, who showed us how young people in Prague continue to organize and speak out.
Memory and action.
Two very different experiences, both reminding us that democracy depends on remembering the past and refusing to remain silent in the present.
